Floating eyeballs

The doll’s eye (and the little doll in our eyes hehehe) is one of the most magnetic concepts around which my blog is built. Since the very first post – just check it! So, these Blythe chips floating in a plastic cup looking maybe absurd, humorous or unexpected, are really deserving to continue the “doll-eye” thread…

L’occhio della bambola ( e la bambolina nell’occhio hehehe) è uno dei concetti più magnetici intorno ai quali qsto blog si svolge. Fin dal primissimo post – basta voler controllare! Allora queste iridi di Blythe a galla in una coppetta di plastica, possono sembrare forse assurde o umoristiche o inaspettate, ma davvero meritano di proseguire il tema “occhio di bambola”

He’s a doll. A dolls’ escort.

Words on packages are revealing. They state product identities, and must be clear (to the target audience) and unique (to emerge among competitors). Remember Ken? Ok, when Barbie’s most important biped accessory first appeared, his box read “he’s a doll” and “he’s Barbie’s boyfriend” – therefore reassuring, monogamous and under control. Today I found a nice Ken clone in a flickr pic. His name is Bill, and interestingly his box reads “your teen age dolls escort”. Aha. A clone, specified as “yours” to anticipate your feeling of owership, for a plurality of clone dolls – “teen age dolls!” – and bearing a job descritption of “escort” – therefore professionally polygamous, presumably a seducer, not so reassuring. And still you wonder why ken was successful and bill wasn’t?

Le parole sulle confezioni sono rivelatrici. Stabiliscono l’identità dei prodotti, e devono essere chiare (per il pubblico di riferimento) e uniche (per distinguersi dai concorrenti). Ricordate Ken? Ok, al primo apparire del più importante accessorio bipede di Barbie, la scatola diceva “è una bambola” e anche “è il ragazzo di Barbie” – perciò rassicurante, monogamico e sotto controllo. Oggi ho trovato un bel clone di Ken su una foto di flickr. Bill è il suo nome e, cosa molto interessante, la sua scatola dice “l’accompagnatore delle tue bambole teenager”. Aha. Un clone, specificato come “tuo” per anticiparti un senso di proprietà, per una pluralità di bambole clone – teenager di età! – e descritto come “escort” – perciò professionalmente poligamo, presumibilmente seduttore, non così rassicurante. E ancora vi chiedete perché il successo abbia arriso a Ken e a Bill no?

I realize I’ve collected a lot of book cover images featuring dolls: sometimes they are pour cause (the subject of the book), sometimes they are just aesthetically tickling. Sometimes, suggestive tout court.

Mi rendo conto di aver raccolto tante immagini di copertine di libri che raffigurano bambole: a volte, con ragione (l’argomento del libro), a volte giusto per titillamento estetico. A volte provocantemente.

i.e. there are as many opinions how many (thinking) heads. But… if those heads are cloned? Cloned opinions too? This rare (to the collector) vintage Ken lot is emblematic, and raises demanding questions (to the philosopher).

Cioè, ci sono tante opinioni quante teste (pensanti). Sì, ma… se qlle teste sono tutte clonate? Sono clonate anche le opinioni? Questo raro (per il collezionista) lotto di Ken vintage è emblematico, e solleva questioni impegnative (per il filosofo).
