Physiology, dollwise

“Barbie never gets old, ill, or dead” I was told once by a press-office person of the Corporate. Nor does she have fluids or bad odours, I must deduce. Therefore, is even more interesting this Italian ad°, featuring a doll (a clone?) in Marilynesque attire and attitude to symbolize the freshness of using hypoallergenic sanitary napkins. Pls notice the conventional and prude colour code about feminine issues: blue. Blue is in fact complementary to the too much physiological red.

“Barbie non invecchia, non si ammala, non muore” mi è stato detto una volta da una persona dell’ufficio-stampa della Grande Azienda. Quindi figuriamoci se emette fluidi o sgradevoli odori. A maggior ragione è interessante questo annuncio°, che proprio con una bambola (un clone?) in abito e atteggiamento da Marilyn simboleggia la freschezza data dall’uso di assorbenti ipoallergenici. Notare il colore che per convenzione e pruderie si adotta parlando di faccende femminili: l’azzurro. Sì, perché l’azzurro è il complementare del troppo fisiologico rosso.

Dolls on books and ...

... and books on dolls. Celebrating post #200, yes this one, I finally added a permanent slideshow showing a couple of Momoko dolls and various details of the trilingual book I made with Molteni&Motta, photographers, publishers - and friends. Also my dolls have their own mini-copy of "Vinyl dolls" as they want to stay tuned with dollcultural issues.

(Bambole sui libri e...) e libri sulle bambole. Per il post #200, sì questo qui, sono riuscita ad aggiungere uno slideshow permanente dove si vedono un paio di Momoko e vari particolari del libro trilingue che ho fatto con Molteni&Motta, fotografi, editori - e amici. Anche le bambole hanno la loro mini-copia di "Vinyl dolls", visto che vogliono rimanere aggiornate sui temi dollculturali.

Obama in 1:6 scale and kombat pose by Japanese toys and action figures maker Gamu Toys. Obama is also accessorized with stars & stripes flag, stool to address informal speeches from, cordless microphone, megaphone, traditional Samurai weapons, a couple of pre-knotted ties, and a set of hands in the assorted rhetoric presidential gestures - pls compare them with the chironomic table from wikipedia.

Obama in scala 1:6 in posa da combattimento secondo Gamu Toys, marchio giapponese di giocattoli e action figures. Obama è inoltre accessoriato di bandiera a stelle e strisce, sgabello da cui pronunciare discorsi informali, microfono cordless, megafono, armi tradizionali da Samurai, 2 cravatte col nodo già fatto e un corredo di mani assortite nei gesti retorici presidenziali – prego, confrontare con la tabella chironomica tratta da wikipedia.

Malicious marketing?

Being first daughters, and under age, and seeing yrselves arbitrarily transformed into dolls, is not a common experience, and not necessarily a solicited one or an hommage to a fashion. Even though the dollies, just by chance (which means NOT by chance, I suppose) named after the 2 girls, have been created commercially riding the wave of a general, great popularity… mediatic exposure is somehow a malicious enchantment. Essere first daughters, minorenni, e vedersi arbitrariamente trasformate in bambole non è un’esperienza comune, né necessariamente richiesta né l’omaggio ad una moda. Anche se magari le bamboline che casualmente si chiamano con gli stessi nomi delle 2 bambine, sono state create cavalcando (commercialmente) un’onda di grande simpatia generale… l’esposizione mediatica è una malìa.
