Hidden grace

The kinda perfect twist – or flip or curl, how could you call it? It’s a factory feature - of this hairstyle, so bulky and healthy and well brushed. Its graceful and ageless non-colour. An invisible face (but I know it’s a vintage 1966 American Girl Barbie). Celebrating the non-ostentation, because this is the way I’ll feel.

Il per così dire perfetto piegarsi – o flip delle punte o ricciolo, come chiamarlo? È una caratteristica di fabbricazione – di questa testa, così voluminosa e sana e ben spazzolata. La grazia di questo non-colore senza età. Un volto invisibile (ma lo so che è una Barbie American Girl vintage del 1966). Si celebra la non-ostentazione, perché è così che mi sentirò.

Born a woman

Too expressive for being a doll. Too vintage-looking for being really vintage. Too fine for appearing so familiar. Too much American-Girl-like for ignoring “American Girl Barbie” and her sophisticated physionomy (s. example here in the middle of the text). These were my impressions after seeing Seiko Ohmori’s 3D wonderful polymer clay figures and learning they are approx life-size. What if they were fashion dolls? 1:6 scale women with a superior ironical twist. Natural born women.

Troppo espressiva per essere una bambola. Troppo con l’aria vintage per essere vintage vera. Troppo fine per sembrare così familiare. Troppo American Girl per ignorare “Barbie American Girl” e la sua sofisticata fisionomia (v. un bellissimo es. qui nel mezzo del testo). Queste le mie impressioni dopo aver visto le magnifiche figure tridimensionali in pasta sintetica di Seiko Ohmori e aver capito che sono praticamente a grandezza naturale. E se fossero invece fashion dolls? Donne in scala 1:6 con un quid di superiore ironia. Donne nate.
