Bubble Baba Challenge

A side effect of owing an inflatable doll could be taking part to the annual Bubble-Baba-Challenge, in Russia, down the Vouksa river wildwater rapids, about 110km from St Petersburg. “Baba” is, in Russian, a disrespectful synonym for “woman”. This event (conveying an undeniable forbidden frisson) implies a sort of rafting, floating down the river in the embraces of a rubber woman – an idea conceived as a joke at a party where the men got drunk and the women didn't show up. Actually, contestants are men and women, although the floating devices are all female inflatable dolls – it seems in fact that the corresponding rubber men were still too expensive!

Questo evento sportivo (con un suo innegabile frisson di proibito) comporta una sorta di rafting, rimanendo a galla tra le braccia della propria bambola di gomma, un’idea nata per scherzo ad una di quella feste goliardiche dove i maschi si ubriacano e di donne neanche l’ombra. In realtà, alla sfida concorrono sia uomini che donne, anche se tutti i “salvagente” sono bambole femmine - perché pare che i maschi gonfiabili siano sempre stati troppo costosi!
