“Doll attack” against abortion

In Sicily today, bleeding dolls in pieces and packed with animal trimmings were sent to the offices of 2 newspapers as an anti-abortion memento. The authors of this initiative have been denounced. Beyond that, what interests to me here is the still remarkable communication power of a doll. Per se a neutral thing, it is frequently charged with oversignificance. But I don’t like when it is spent as a violent message.

Oggi in Sicilia bambole insanguinate fatte a pezzi e incellofanate insieme a frattaglie di animali sono state spedite alle redazioni di due giornali come una provocazione anti-aborto. Gli autori del gesto sono stati denunciati. Al di là del fatto, ciò che m’interessa qui, è ancora il potere comunicativo della bambola. Di per sé oggetto neutrale, è spesso caricata di sovrasignificati. Ma non mi piace quando è utilizzata come un messaggio violento.
