Perk Pioneers

Are you in Milan? Go to Triennale, visit the exhibition China New Design (free entrance in August) and meet these small dolls…figurines called Perk Pioneers. Created by the Shanghai designer duo PERK for adFunture, they are kinda assorted small atheletes. You couldn’t guess their gender, as they appear so childish and imperturbable. They remind me a contemporary and peaceful resin rivisitation of Xi’an terracotta warriors or also the playmobil characters, due to the very similar articulations. But it’s so clear they’re designer toys. Originally seen as a life-size sculptures, Perk Pioneers are actually 8-9cm tall each. I’m trying to find and have a series sent to my place. Not easy.

Create dal duo di designer PERK di Shanghai per adFunture, sono una specie di piccoli atleti assortiti. Non si capisce se maschi o femmine, visto che appaiono così infantili e imperturbabili. Mi ricordano una rivisitazione in resina, contemporanea e pacifica, dei guerrieri di terracotta di Xi’an, o anche i playmobil, per l’articolazione molto simile. Ma sono molto più evidentemente designer toys. In origine immaginati come sculture a grandezza naturale, i Perk Pioneers sono in realtà alti 8-9cm ciascuno. Sto cercando di trovare e farmi spedire una serie. Mica facile.
