Merry-go-round faces, weredolls and wererabbits, celebrities in the dark, confusing landscapes. These are Carlo Golia’s photos, which I discovered at step 09. What do they have to do with dolls? They are an extremization, a gigantic doll-parody. If you take and make a glittered Barbie bigger and older, you’ll obtain someone who’s perfect for a Luna Park. It you take the tender toy-rabbit and cut off his right ear, you’ll obtain kinda lysergic monster. If you subtract a dazed Elvis figurine the smoothness of the vinyl, he’ll be kinda lifeless shell singing at night. A deformed and parallele hyperreality is in ambush for us in these images. Let’s be careful next time we play.
Facce da giostra, dolls e conigli mannari, celebrities al buio, paesaggi spaesanti. Queste sono le foto di Carlo Golia, che ho scoperto a step09. Cosa c’entrano con le dolls? Ne sono un’estremizzazione, una caricatura gigante. Perché se gigantizzi e invecchi una Barbie glitterata è perfetta per un Luna Park. Se al tenero toy-coniglietto rifili l’orecchio destro, diventa un mostro lisergico. Se ad una figurina di Elvis imbambolato togli il liscio-morbido del vinile, diventa un guscio senz’anima che canta nella notte. Un’iperrealtà deforme e parallela è in agguato in queste immagini. Stiamo attenti la prossima volta che giochiamo.
